When dental services are needed, Dr. Stephen Lawrence can help, especially if patients need tooth extractions. Treatments such as these are commonly performed for patients who need one or more teeth removed.
Why might I need a tooth removed?

There are several situations during which our dental team might suggest tooth removal. Some examples include:
- Trauma or injury to a tooth
- A huge cavity that cannot be effectively filled or protected with a dental crown
- Significant infection that cannot be treated using root canal therapy
- A baby tooth that will not fall out on its own
- Preparing for orthodontic work, specifically when overcrowding is a concern
- Preparing for the creation and placement of full dentures
- Removing impacted or problematic wisdom teeth (third molars)
What can I expect from my tooth extraction?
There are a few different ways in which tooth extraction can be done. First, patients will want to ask their dentist about anesthetics and sedation, which allow patients to be comfortable during their appointment. Second, patients will need to find out if they need a simple extraction or a surgical extraction. A simple extraction is removing a tooth that is above the gumline and accessible by the dentist. This is done quickly and easily right in the dental chair in minutes. A surgical extraction, however, requires oral surgery to remove a tooth. This is also done with proper anesthetic and sedation but requires the dentist to cut into the gums to access the tooth in the jawbone. This is a more invasive procedure but is done regularly with minimal side effects and problems.
